I have been consuming about 5 hours of audio books and podcast fiction every day at work for a few months now. Some of that time I listened to a podcast geared towards aspiring writers. Yesterday at work I had an idea of something that I would like to do with a story I have been wanting to write since I was in high school. It is more of a world building exercise than anything, but it is something that I think will help toward my eventual writing goals. So last night I just sat down and did some writing. I had a modest goal of 500 words, and I came up with the first two journal entries for a character in my stories history. The journal will help me flesh out the way magic works in my fantasy setting. It might not be used a whole lot in the first novel length story I want to write, but it will help out a lot in setting the stage and fleshing things out.
So I have set a 500 word per day goal, and I like the size of the roughly 250 word journal entries. I figure I'll post one entry per day, and if all goes well I will have a good backlog of blog posts for when I drop a day (which I intend to do once a week). Hopefully I can keep this up and develop a good amount of detail for the little tale I want to tell. Eventually.
